Dear Friends,
The Charles Horman Truth Project needs your support for our litigation against former Chilean Dictator Augusto Pinochet and his subordinates for the death of Charles Horman and crimes against humanity. For more than thirty years the truth has been suppressed.
In recent months, two extremely important events have taken place which have the potential to lead directly to the truth in the case of Charles Horman.
In December 2003, a former Chilean intelligence agent Rafael Gonzalez Verdugo, was arrested and charged by the Chilean court as an accomplice in the death of Charles. Gonzalez has been released on bail while the case against him proceeds.
In May 2004, the Chilean court stripped former President Pinochet of his lifetime immunity from prosecution for human rights violations that took place during his leadership. This court decision paves the way for Pinochet to now face charges.
We are closer than ever to the truth. We want to see that justice is done on behalf of Charles and the other victims of Pinochet's brutal regime, and we need your help to do that.
Funds are urgently needed to complete the process of bringing the guilty to justice. Your contributions will be used to help to support the work of the Horman family's lawyers in Chile who are working with vigor and determination to make the truth known. Currently, that process includes translating and photocopying thousands of pages of declassified U.S. documents concerning US involvement and actions in Chile, researching and investigating leads in the case, preparing and processing motions and appearing before the Court.
