Charles Horman wrote the Sunshine Grabber while we were traveling down to Chile in our camper.
It was in Panama that the idea for the story came to Charlie, and he typed away on his portable typewriter whenever he was moved to write more of it. The version you see here, utilizes the original font of that traveling typewriter.
The illustrations were the original drawings that artist Lucho Mestres and I created in Santiago Chile, while working on the project to animate the story. Because of Pinochet’s coup, our animation did not come to fruition; however, we preserved the original illustrations, which are included here.
Hopefully, for students who saw it referred to in the movie “Missing”, this will clarify the actual animation project’s content and design style.
